This 1-parameter family is a simple example of a 6-ended Scherk surface of genus 1 with Costa saddles.

The image above shows a crucial difference to the toroidal Karcher-Scherk surfaces (and their known deformations): These can be obtained by gluing three 4-ended singly periodic Scherk surfaces with the same phase together, here one the Scherk surfaces has undergone a phase shift by a half period.

The images below show the emerging Costa nodes when the annular ends approach each other. This surface is very different from the singly periodic Costa surface discovered by Valerio Batista and Francisco Martín.
